Veli Losinj is a small seaside town situated in the south of the island of Lošinj in the bay of Kvarner. At the entrance to the harbour stands the baroque church of St. Anthony the Hermit, which dates back to the 17th century, and which was built on the remains of a smaller church from the 15th century. The harbour is also dominated by the Tower, dating back to the 15th century. It was built to protect the town from pirate raids. The beautiful old stone houses, surrounded by parks and exotic vegetation, narrate the town's rich seafaring tradition.
Thanks to its favourable climatic conditions, Veli Lošinj has long been a well known health resort. More than 100 years ago the air, sea and the sun in Veli Lošinj were discovered by the Hapsburg Archduke Charles Stephen, who spent his holidays here, building a residence of recreational and health tourism. In the immediate vicinity of Veli Lošinj lies Rovenska, a small fishing harbour, where the air smells of freshness, fish and the sea. Get to know the area as seen from the sea by making boat excursions.
